The best candy packaging, ever?

Just saw this at Duane Reade and I was mesmerized, kind of like a kid in a candy store. Or in this case a kid in a drug, junk food, home gadgets, misc. odds & ends store. Sweet’s makes taffy that I would buy for the packaging alone. A large rectangle box about yay big contains the candy and then an origami-like folding of cardboard creates two “paper wrapper” ends. I spent a good 2-3 minutes admiring the construction as I tried to figure out how such a thing was even created. I couldn’t. They have to be folded for shipment which means that either the Sweet’s delivery man or the Duane Reade staff must construct each one. Anyways, no more explanation, they are just cool and visually fun.

It’s the dancing wiener from the Junior/Senior “Move Your Feet” video live and in action! These are awesome.

Gotta’ love this friendly little card, but click here to read about the most worthy recipient. I would like to hold a parade to celebrate the criminals who did this.

Sure, it’s all kinds of Saul Bass with the lettering and the simple graphic, but I guess that’s probably why I think it’s interesting. It’s good to lift an idea every once in a while to keep yourself relevant. I’m kind of sad they didn’t just use a perfectly airbrushed shot of Phillip Seymour Hoffman’s head instead. With some faux-metallic type of course.

This is a bit of a stretch, but this poster reminded me of The US of L.

It’s nice to see Shannyn Sossamon back in a film. I had a big crush on her before she hooked up with some random guy and got knocked up. Other than that she’s still pretty cute.

Finally, a rebranding that makes sense.

I hate “branding” and really I know I shouldn’t say that in this profession, but I’m so sick and tired of the buzz word being thrown around everywhere for any situation. But now I’ve found a rebrand that I think is truly smashing brilliant.

A healthy stock of stock.

I found a great listing of stock photo houses to share from the March/April 2006 issue of “Step Inside Design”.

Oh, but for Rambo(ne) they used Stencil. The typeface, not necessarily the method. That is probably the worst likeness of Stallone I have ever seen. Though given how botoxed his face is it might really look like it’s melting.

I thought I had seen the worst of the worst with Mary J. Blige’s video “Just Fine”.

Then this morning I saw Seal’s video for “Amazing”.

What is this, a Electrotrash-off? Each video is equally bad but I honesty can’t decide between MJB and Seal. MJB couldn’t dance her way out of a paper bag and the busted 80s dance moves nearly do her in, but then Seal has a strong entry that utilizes not only wonky graphics but also has him wearing the gayest scarf I have ever seen in my life. And not that there is anything wrong with having a gay scarf, but come on. Whomever styled the video should have their creative license revoked.

In the end I think Seal’s video wins the title, but only because it’s a blatant rip-off of JT’s video for Lovestoned. And I honestly thought that one was bad and it couldn’t get much worse (the ending sealed the deal). How naive of me. Eh, 97.5% of music videos still suck.

Willi Kunz is one of my favorite designers ev-ur. His straight-forward, yet expressive typography is some of the best on this side of the pond. Through my frequent Googling of his name I discovered a blog that linked to an assortment of his posters that are in the permanent collections at the MoMA .

Not bad, even if he was a Buckeye for a while.

I think Santa might finally be bringing me Macro+Microaesthetics this year. I’ve wanted it for at least two years and I think I might even try reading it instead of just looking at the pictures. Maybe. Yes, I am a geek.
